Email Migration Frequently Asked Questions

Frequently asked questions (with answers) about the Email migration from Urban to the University Email system. This page will get updated with additional questions and answers as needed.

Additional supporting documents:

Q: Will my current urban Email address still work?
A: The last step of conversion is to forward your Urban Email to the university system. After the Urban system is shut down IS&T will handle routing of Urban Email addresses to university addresses for 12 months allowing time for transition to the new Email addresses.

Q: What happens to my stored Email?
A: You will have the ability to move your stored Email to IS&T's servers. This will be necessary if you want to access your stored Email after Urban's Email system is shut down.

Q: What happens to my stored Email if I don't move it to CSU's system?
A: When the Urban Affairs Email system is shut down you will not be able to access the messages from your Email software. The data will still exist on Urban's servers and can be accessed via your H:\ drive if necessary at a later date.

Q: What is my university Email address?
A: You can find this out by logging onto Campusnet (https://campusnet.csuohio.edu/login.jsp) and checking the Email section of the "Personal" tab.

Q: My university address has the wrong last name, how to I get that fixed?
A: Contact the IS&T call center at x5050 and open a help ticket.

Q: Do I have to learn new/different software?
A: No, you may continue to use your current Email software. You will need to configure it to access IS&T's servers. If you would like to switch to something else you are free to do so after you have moved you stored Email messages.

IS&T will be providing training for Campus Webmail on Monday, December 17th and Friday January 11th at 10:00 AM in the UR 40 computer lab.

Q: Can I access my Email via the web?
A: Yes, using Campus Webmail (https://webmail.csuohio.edu/). You will see all of your stored email folders after you have moved them.

Q: What about Urban's webmail system?
A: Urban's Webmail system will be shutdown along with the Email servers. All Email access will be through IS&T's systems.

Q: Will I be able to send Email from home or a remote location using IS&T's servers?
A: No, unlike Urban, IS&T does not provide an outgoing Email server for remote users. You will need to use the outgoing Email server provided by your ISP. You may also use Campus Webmail to send Email when you are off campus. More information on this is available at http://www.csuohio.edu/ist/smtp.shtml

Q: Are there any limits on storage space space or messages?
A: IS&T does not impose any Email storage quotas; howver, there is a 10 megabyte (MB) limit on Email messages. This means that any incoming or outgoing Email message including attachments must be smaller than 10 MB.

Q: How to I turn on a vacation message?
A: Log onto Campus Webmail, Click on the "Mail" tab, Click on "tools", then click on "out of office", fill out the pop-up form. When finished be sure to click on "Save & Close" to save your changes or the vacation message will not be enabled.

Q: I have other migration questions, who can I ask?
A: Bob Martel (r.martel@csuohio.edu)
