Domain Migration Frequently Asked Questions
Frequently asked questions (with answers) about the Domain migration from CUACS (Urban) to
CSUNET. This page will get updated with additional questions and answers
as needed.
Q: What will happen to the files on my H:\ (or other letter) drive?
A: The files will still be there. They will still be stored on Urban servers and still get backed-up on a regular basis.
Q: Will the software on my PC change?
A: Only the anti-virus scanner will change. As part of the domain migration process the Sophos software will be removed and McAffee will be installed. Landesk management software will also be installed. All other software will remain. At this time IS&T is not re-imaging PCs.
Q: I don't know how to map drives, how do I do that?
A: Instructions will be provided. If you are present when your PC is migrated IS&T staff will perform the initial drive and printer mappings for you.
Q: Printer mappings? Are our printers changing, too?
A: Print jobs will be routed through IS&T's print server rather than urban's print server. The printer types and locations are not changing.
Q: After my PC was switched, when I log in it says some of my network drives are not connected, what do I do?
A: Your urban network drives were not connected because the urban servers don't know you by your Campusnet ID and password. You need to identify youself to the urban servers using your old CUACS password.
- Double click on the drive you are trying to open in "My Computer"
- After some time a dialog box will appear looking something like this.
- In the password box type in your CUACS password
- Click on the OK button
- Your network drive should them be reconnected.
|
Q: Typing in all these passwords all the time is annoying. How long do we have to keep doing that?
A: After all users are moved off of CUACS we will move the urban servers to CSUNET and you will no longer need to type in the CUACS password - in fact your drives will then reconnect without intervention when you log in to the network.
