The Countryside Program
Kirby Date, AICP is a landscape architect and community planner who has been coordinating the Countryside Program since 1996. Her areas of expertise include development planning and design, small town planning, and planning and design for parks, open space, and environmental areas. In 2004 she led the Ohio Lake Erie Commission’s working group on Best Local Land Use Practices, as part of the Balance Growth Blue Ribbon Task Force. Since 2006 she has led the Best Local Land Use Practices program, which will be expanding to a statewide program in 2009 under the Ohio Lake Erie Commission and the Ohio Water Resources Council. Prior to starting The Countryside Program, she was in private practice for 14 years in the San Francisco Bay Area. Ms. Date is a registered landscape architect in the State of Ohio, and a member of the American Institute of Certified Planners. She is the author of the award-winning Conservation Development Resource Manual, published in 1999; co-author of Case Studies in Family Land Conservation (2005); and editor of the Ohio Lake Erie Commission’s Balancing Land Use and Lake Erie: Best Local Land Use Practices (2004).
