Dennis Keating is a Levin College Distinguished Professor. He holds a joint faculty appointment in the Cleveland-Marshall College of Law. He has formerly served as Chair of the Department of Urban Studies, Director of the Office of Student Services, Director of the MS Urban Studies, and Associate Dean. Dr. Keating is currently President of the Housing and Built Environment Research Council of the International Sociological Association. He teaches courses on housing, neighborhood development, urban planning, and land use law. He has published widely in these fields. He was co-editor of a special issue of the Journal of Urban Affairs in Spring, 2004 and co-author of a history of the planning and development of Cleveland's lakefront, published in 2005. He co-authored a chapter in A Right to Housing (Temple University Press, 2006). His latest publication is a 2006 article in the Journal of the Community Development Society on the longterm impact of community development corporations on two Cleveland neighborhoods. His article on the First Suburbs Consortium of Greater Cleveland is forthcoming in the journal Opolis. In November, 2007, he was a featured speaker at the conference on "Community Control & Benefits in Land Use" co-sponsored by the Center for Community Builders, the Lincoln Institute of Land Policy, and the Annie E. Casey Foundation. In Fall, 2003, he was a Visiting Fellow at the Department of Urban Studies, University of Glasgow.
